จาก code name ว่า WPF/E ตอนนี้ ไมโครซอฟท์ ได้ประกาศแล้วว่าจะใช้ชื่อว่า Silverlight ซึ่งเป็น plug-in สำหรับการทำ Rich-Interactive Web Applications (RIAs) โดยสามารถใช้ Visual Studio ในการพัฒนาตัว Silverlight ได้ เพราะว่าอยู่บนพื้นฐานของ .NET Framework
